First up:
Charlie Duffey's Annual Fun with Ropes Clinic - Sun., Jan. 6, 10- a.m. - 3 p.m. Great Falls Virginia Auditorium. Learn how to tie the essential knots and hitches to help rescue a friend OTR, free a pinned boat, or secure boat on your vehicles.

"This clinic consists of two sessions: Morning: This is indoors in the Visitor Center auditorium. We concentrate on safety, some gear, and lots of knots work. Afternoon: This is outside. We concentrate on various rope skills like throwing, cinches, mechanical advantage. No experience necessary. This clinic is suitable for all ages (yes - even young children). This clinic is open to the public so feel free to invite any friends you have."

 

The list of scheduled trips below remains a work in progress and reflects mostly weekend trips. Other trips are ad hoc and announced via the BRV email list.

Mid-week trips:

  • Stay tuned to BRV emails whenever there's water in fun places.
  • The Thursday Paddlers, an informal group of DC area whitewater boaters, led for decades by Steve Ettinger, organize trips every week from March to November.To join their email list, contact Miki Komlosh or Mark Brenneman.
  • CCA also has a Pick Up Trips email list for people to connect anytime area ww creeks and tributary rivers are runnable.To subscribe to this list, send an email with the subject "Pickup Trips" to webmaster@canoecruisers.org, or post a proposal to trips@canoecruisers.org.
  • Wednesday p.m. paddling on the lower Potomac: CCA's Mike Baummer coordinates trips for all area after-work paddlers from Anglers to Lock 10, Little Falls or Violette's Lock. See MikeyB's posts on the MCC board for updates and details.
  • Sunday Morning Violette's Lock trips: To join the list, email AlfCooley@gmail.com. .
